The course covers the fundamentals of social protection, underscoring the need for systems that are responsive to both covariate and idiosyncratic shocks. It integrates theoretical knowledge with practical applications, focusing on the design, implementation, financing, and evaluation of adaptive social protection systems that can tackle poverty, vulnerability, and social exclusion.

- The Socio-economics of Social Protection: An analysis of the of the socio-economic principles that serve as the foundation for modern social protection systems and the welfare state
- Social Protection Architecture: Understanding the structure and components of social protection systems
- Public Finance for Social Protection: Financing models and strategies for sustainable social protection systems
- Shock-Responsive Social Protection: Developing and adapting systems capable of responding to the variety of covariate shocks that contemporary societies face
- Adaptive Mechanisms: Tools and methodologies for creating flexible and responsive social protection systems
- Rights-Based and Life Cycle Frameworks: Emphasising the importance of rights and life stages in social protection design
- Social Inclusion and Gender Equality: Strategies to ensure social protection systems are inclusive and promote gender equality
- Inter-Sectoral Initiatives and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Integrating social protection with other sectors to support the SDGs
- Evaluating Social Protection Systems: Methods for monitoring and assessing the impact of social protection policies.

This course is ideal for policy makers, government officials, non-governmental organisation staff, and professionals involved in the design, governance, implementation, and evaluation of social protection systems. It is also suitable for academics and researchers interested in the latest developments in social protection policy.
Duration and location
The course is offered onsite for groups, with a minimum of 10 participants and a maximum of 15 participants. The number of course participants can be adapted on demand to accommodate specific needs and groups. Standard onsite courses run for a week. Exact dates are flexible and decided on a basis of demand.
