Delivering on a more effective Child Policy Portfolio in the United Kingdom

Child poverty remains persistently high in the United Kingdom. This situation raises a key policy question: how can a more efficient, effective, and comprehensive child policy portfolio be achieved?

This project examines how well the UK’s current child policy portfolio performs. It aims to assess and improve its effectiveness by providing evidence to support advocacy and reform.

The goal is to benefit children, families, and society—especially by reducing child poverty in the United Kingdom and addressing inequality.

The study analyses spending patterns and the impact of existing policies on child well-being. This includes poverty, educational outcomes, and access to services. It also produces a comprehensive, evidence-based plan to support the transition toward more effective child policies.

Drawing on international best practices, the project considers the cost-effectiveness of potential reforms. It presents actionable insights to strengthen outcomes for children across the UK.

This project was commissioned by UNICEF United Kingdom.

The project ran from October 2024 to December 2024.
