On 26 March 2026, the University of York will host a panel discussion on immigration policies, asylum seekers, and refugees in the UK, and the role the higher education sector can play in supporting them.
The event will bring together perspectives from policy, academia, journalism, and lived experience to explore the challenges faced by displaced people and how institutions can respond. The discussion will also highlight the work of the York Sanctuary Fund, which supports asylum-seeking and refugee students, human rights defenders, and academics at risk.
Dominic Richardson, Managing Director of the Learning for Well-being Institute, will participate in the panel alongside Rachael Maskell MP, Fawzia Ehsani, and Phil Harding. The conversation will be hosted by Professor Charlie Jeffery, Vice Chancellor and President of the University of York.
We welcome the opportunity to contribute research perspectives to conversations that bring together policy, academia, and lived experience on complex social challenges.
