How Demographic Change, Digitalization, and Climate Change Influence Child Well-being

The future trajectories of demographics, urbanisation, internet access, and climate change will have significant impacts on the lives of children and their well-being.

This project offers a comprehensive understanding of the current state of child well-being globally, and analyses the anticipated situation of children into 2050, through a macro-pooled time series, projecting trends of demographics, urbanisation, internet access, and climate crisis impact. This is done through the lens of three child well-being and development indicators: human capital, learning poverty, and child poverty.

Findings are presented through four briefs containing insights on the potential effects of each condition on child well-being, and a fifth brief that analyses the overall findings of the data project.

The research was conducted for UNICEF Innocenti – Global Office of Research and Foresight, to inform the State of the World’s Children report, 2024. The project runs from December 2023 to June 2024.
