Consultant – Qualitative Data Collection

Role Overview

We are seeking a Germany-based qualitative research consultant to support data collection for the Act2gether Mental Health Intervention Programme Evaluation. The consultant will lead qualitative data collection, including conducting interviews in German and carrying out structured classroom observation, ensuring that the research is implemented in accordance with the established research design, tools, and ethical guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct qualitative data collection (online or in person), 7-10 interviews in German and 3 classroom observations during Project Days.
  • Collaborate with the project team on participant recruitment, logistics arrangement, and scheduling of interviews.
  • Communicate with schools to secure observation dates and ensure all consent processes.
  • Produce clear bilingual transcripts (German and English).
  • Produce concise English notes summarising each interview and observation.
  • Uphold ethical, child-safe, confidential, and culturally sensitive research practices throughout all data collection activities.

Qualifications & Criteria

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in qualitative research (interviews, focus group discussions, and classroom observation).
  • Academic or professional background in Education, psychology, child development or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of child rights, well-being, mental health and social change.
  • Fluency in German and English.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills with both children and adults.
  • Familiarity with safeguarding and ethical procedures.
  • Based in Germany, and able to travel within Germany.

Desirable

  • Experience with mixed-method evaluations.
  • Knowledge of participatory pedagogies.
